What Every Diver Should Know
About Equipment Maintenance
In this issue, we present the second in our series of value-added instructional materials. This issue's handout deals with the topic of equipment service. It addresses:
- The Need for Annual Service Why manufacturers specify a one-year service/inspection interval for regulators and other items -- regardless of whether they have received use or not.
- What Does a Regulator Overhaul Entail? What is it you are getting for your money, and why it's foolish to attempt to fix a single problem when, for nearly the same time and effort, you can return the entire regulator to nearly "as new" condition.
- The Importance of Warranties Think you can save money on dive equipment by shopping on the Internet? Think again. The real cost of owning dive equipment isn’t what you pay for it up front. It’s what you have to pay to maintain it over time -- and what you might lose if you don’t buy the right item to start with.
This handout is designed to be used and entry-level classes or any other level of training. You can also give it to customers who do not appear to understand any of the topics it covers.
